When you make plans, you have to take into account the unexpected. Especially, when big money is at stake and the world, in general, doesn't want to cooperate with you. Or you're simply unlucky. Getting money from the ransom and arranging your wife's kidnapping might not be a piece of cake. The same goes with hiring a group of totally not like-minded people, renting a room in an old lady's house, which seems to be a perfect starting point, and planning a casino robbery. Even though on paper it looks like an easy way to become a millionaire, the consequences might be tragic. Or hilarious. Coen brothers' humor and two plans for a better future which for some end in a disaster. Enjoy.
It's difficult to follow your dreams. You devote hours of training and preparation without any guarantee that it will go according to plan and you'll be appreciated. You have to have luck. And you have to learn how to get up once you fall with a bang. That requires courage. A group of young people in a ruthless world, stuck in their everyday jobs dreaming of something bigger than just a paycheck. How to deal with failure and rejection? How to dream when you're a woman learning that men can destroy you with the power of their choices and you cannot get by on your own without love? How to accept that time can only work against you? Who can you trust and do you have everything that will guarantee success? A cult movie from the 80s and still an inspiration for many girls who count on their talents to make their dreams come true. Flashdance.
While the majority of writers dream about instant success and leaving the legacy along the lines of Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, or the financial paradise of J.K. Rowling or Stephen King, a lot will face the bitter pill of professional drawbacks. And if your literary career is dying a slow and unappreciated death, can you use your talents for a bit different craft? Yes, winning literary prizes is glorious, but when your rent is unpaid, your pet is sick, and you have literally no money, how can you truly get by another day? What if entering the path of crime was a temporary fix to your problems? Based on a true story, hilarious, and real - a struggle of a writer who found a peculiar literary vocation. Can You Ever Forgive Me?
If there is someone you can associate with adventure, it's Indiana Jones. A scholar beloved by his students can also be the protagonist of a series of exciting films and a womanizer. And, as every complex character, he's bound to have some women issues and father and son issues to make him more of an ordinary human. Ordinary is not something he seeks, however. He is there for the unattainable - magic, legend, and power of religious artifacts. All the above are hidden, protected, and to reach them, you have to come up against some deadly challenges, fierce and dangerous competition, with a lot of stamina and self-wisdom involved. But is there a better adventure? At this point almost legendary, a series of entertaining and compelling films, and one lonely hero against the power of history: Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Enjoy.
We all come from somewhere: our current location, dream job and desired destination in the world of emigrants and immigrants cannot wipe out our roots. And these roots, entangling our toes, feet, and ankles, remind us of long-forgotten history, ancestry, and family. But in the melting pot of new traditions, Starbucks' culture, borrowed ideas, foreign fashion and languages isn't it good to go back to the square one and appreciate our own uniqueness, diversity and depth? Maybe family meetings are great lesson of being humble and in peace with oneself? All cultures, however, have their unwritten rules which need to be accepted. One of Chinese traditions is lying to someone who is about to die about their actual health. Knowing that someone dear to you is sick, can you really blend in and maintain a lie? The Farewell.
Seventeen is not really a dream come true age to get pregnant. That's right, you can glorify it in teen reality TV dramas about how teenage girls try to juggle growing up and motherhood, but you can have a better idea about your future and not really want a child in it (either at all or for now). But your country/state/politics might not help you to deal with your situation especially when you're left without the support of your family, friends, and a boyfriend. You might have to find money, travel miles, and take with you someone who you can trust the most. A Thelma-and-Louise-like journey with a contemporary problem. How to deal with the world when you're a young woman in the country full of religious fanatics and irrational paradoxes? How valuable does a real friendship turn out to be, and why so many of us, young women, will find it a heart-warming story about a heartbreaking life choice. Unpregnant.
We love the lives of the rich, beautiful, and successful. However, there are only a few of those who will have a chance to enjoy luxury lives without limits. The reality is far harsher. Some of us will at some point in our lives lose their jobs, witness the break-up of their marriages, and face the struggle with the system that doesn't respect the old, weak, sick, or in need. How humiliating can be acquiring help from officials, dealing with people's lack of imagination, unwillingness, and indifference? Why can it happen to us all, many of whom are just one salary away from being homeless, hungry, or in debt? Why providing for your children forces you to take up any profession, even one socially condemned? A story of an unusual friendship in need and one man's fight with the British social system: I am Daniel Blake.
We got used to male detectives: Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie's Hercules Poirot occupied our consciousness for decades. What we needed was someone new and fresh. And a woman. Because what was for decades ignored by others, was female intelligence, bravery, and the ability to notice what to man's eye is unseen. So wouldn't you like to engage in a detective mystery and a brave escape from the strict rules of conventions, tight structures of corsets in the male-dominated world of 19th century England? Enola Holmes is a smart aspiring detective and an example to follow for many girls growing up nowadays with access to Netflix. Based on a series of novels by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes.
You can't be successful forever and in any profession, there will come younger, more talented and eager. But giving them a chance, might change your outlook on your career and allow you to go with the time dynamics. The values of each generation won't stand the test of time for the younger, just as video casettes were replaced by on demand streaming platforms. But wouldn't it be great to merge experience and reputation with the fresh perspective? Maybe this is what a true cooperation should look like in the changing times, allowing the young to learn and the old to get to know the new exciting stuff. Television is a great example of how experience supports novelty. What if two young women at the beginning of their careers were to face very stubborn established TV personalities and win their hearts? Late Night and Morning Glory. Enjoy.
Go fight the forces of nature and find out how small you are and how weak! Pride is our greatest sin; our belief in our unstoppable, unsinkable, undefeated - laughed by Mother Nature with countless casualties. And we tend to forget about it just as often as we are reminded. We established rules, which are here to curb our wild tempers but up there, far away at sea, those rules don't apply. Imagine a ship that sets sails to hunt for whales' oil. Imagine a monster whale that can destroy a human plan with one move of its tail. Imagine being lost, stranded, and alone: with death breathing into your neck and choices no one wants to make. Inspired by America's epic Moby Dick, a story of the sea, friendship, and a sense of duty to the core of human values. In the Heart of the Sea.
We've been obsessed with immortality for centuries. The fact that we believe in Jesus Christ's resurrection, reincarnation, and afterlife tells us that we, people, do fear death and the unknown beyond it, and, having gotten used to the life's charm, would like to prolong our stay on Earth as long as possible. This leads us to the pursuit of life eternal. Imagine people who never die, but heal from every wound and every excruciating unsurvivable crash. Imagine a team of such individuals who meet at some point in history to work together. What can be done with such potential? Is the mystery of immortality reserved for the few selected or should it be available to everybody? Is eternal life possible without pains of the hostile world or does it lead to loneliness and abandonment? And is there really something like a bottomless well of life energy or there's an end to everything? The Old Guard.
The human body doesn't have the limitless potential and godlike powers. Unfortunately, either the brain or the muscles have finite capacity and can't accomplish the impossible. For anything that should work we need teams. And maybe one Ethan Hunt alone (or if you prefer Tom Cruise alone) wouldn't be able to save his beloved from certain death or the world from collapsing, but with a team of qualified friends, gadgets and technology, a plan and a bit of luck, he might leave you speachless. At the end of the day, is there anything that the cinema can't create? The suspencion of disbelief can allow you to take part in a series of action films and grant you that no mission is impossible indeed. Enjoy.
You cannot treat Hollywood too seriously. At the end of the day, it's a business. Award-winning shows, gossip, scandals, blockbusters and flops, big money, bigger loves, even bigger falls, and sexual exploitation are the background for the hundreds of stories which are just stories with fictitious characters, decorations, and costumes. But what is great about it all is the fact that this business can actually laugh about itself in the way the best Hollywood magic allows. So can you make fun of all historical films, Robin Hood legends, Star Wars glory and the fear of Dracula? Of course, you can. With the naughtiness of a boy, who pokes fun at our naivety and far too serious creator's ideas. Mel Brooks had a gift for being such a naughty clever boy in the middle of Hollywood pompousness. History of the World, Part 1; Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Honestly, so much fun!
What a better way to be entertained than to engage in a police case of chasing ruthless criminals, with the assassination of Elizabeth II, the President or guests at the Academy Awards in the background? Especially, when your protagonist, a policeman, Sergeant Frank Drebin is not a typical successful representative of the profession. Full of unbelievably bizarre situations, hilarious serendipities, no respect for any kind of authority, be it power, age, and good taste, comes a series of films which after over thirty years can make you laugh and find the situations relatable. At the end of the day, the good guy wins it all along with a beautiful woman, so no time wasted. The Naked Gun.
There are very few stories that are known by practically everybody in the World, and truthfully so, they deserve to be. Whether you're in your seventies or in your teens, you are familiar with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2D2, C3P0, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Rey, Kylo Ren, Yoda, and many many more. George Lucas did something unthinkable for the human race. He created a myth, not even claiming to base it on reality, and amassed a cult following of willing, younger and younger fans. He provided children and adults with game ideas, Halloween costumes, and dreams. He launched careers, made personalities alive, inspired toys and gadgets. But also, he left a saga of unforgettable, funny, original characters who are willing to stand up against the forces of evil. Nine films in the saga, spanning from 1977, additional stories and TV series, hours of entertainment: endless possibilities to become a fan yourself. And can there be a greater Force? Star Wars.
It's funny how as teenagers we dream about our ideal future and as young adults, we tend to plan our lives, marriages, children, careers, but these dreams and plans turn up to have little to do with reality. But can you really plan these things? When all your friends are dating guys their own age can you expect to fall in love with a much older man? Can you dream about being someone's stepmother? Do you picture yourself as a second or third wife? Do you take into account that fairy tales happen usually only in fairy tales and the prince is just a regular guy with a lot of kingdom-related problems and a wandering eye for ladies of the court? What if you (realistically assessing your personal life) decided on single motherhood, but life got in a way? And if you aren't happy with the result, can you really plan a way out? Maggie's Plan.
The most frustrating thing in life is to run into a stumbling block of your ambition. But some things are just so difficult to overcome. Money, class, background, education - these things you won't easily acquire and there are no shortcuts. But if once rejected, you badly needed to be accepted back? What can you resort to in order to make your plan work and the girl of your dreams like and trust you back? Is there a limit to your scruples or Machiavelli was right and "The end justifies the means"? How a boy with no money and prospects tried to make it in the city of Warsaw. The Hater.
It takes time to learn your true vocation. You might get in the trap of money, sex, and idleness and be too blind to learn the value of work and love. But time is a great teacher. What comes easily to you, can be as easily taken away. True skills, however, will stay and help you recover from the greatest misfortunes. The loss will teach you the value of friendship, love, parenthood, and profession. And then - you're changed. And people do change, once they suffered enough, learned a lot or got bored with the same things over and over again. How did it happen to a young, arrogant medic who happened to find himself at the king's court? Great costumes, palaces, and rituals of the epoch and one lost young man prone to sin, Restoration.
You always remember those who wronged you, don't you? Even one critical remark lingers for years, one hateful comment blurs hundreds of positive ones, one failed purchase sours your mood and memories of many successful ones. One accident leaves you traumatized and one failure in a relationship makes you cautious with the subsequent loves. But if you're innocent, entirely and blissfully and there are those who purposefully destroy your career, freedom, love, and family? Can you forget the betrayal? Can you really let go? Or will you find peace only when you revenge those who wronged you? Taking into account circumstances, making use of the true reversal of fate and pure luck, you might regain what was once taken from you. Life is made of ups and downs and this story is the epitome of its giggles of fate. A classic still exciting, enjoyable and interesting, based on a lengthy Alexandre Dumas' novel, with multiple film adaptations. Do you believe in God's justice? The Count of Monte Cristo.
Some die young. Yes, tragically, not everybody is going to make it and enjoy their lives to the fullest. Some will end up with many unfinished stories and unfinished business. But if you had a chance to come back in another body with memories of your past life and were able to mend what was once broken? Young Robert Downey, Jr. and Cybill Shephard as a pair of lost lovers. A play on reincarnation and a feel-good comedy that hasn't lost its appeal. Chances Are.
Have you ever experienced a job burnout? However motivated you might be entering a profession, after a while, after months and months of problems, conflicts, or simple overwork, you start to lose the sense of your vocation. What if your job is playing in a science fiction TV series which has been dragging for some time and even fan meetings started to be tiresome? Looks like a long way down? But what if the fiction was far closer to reality than you thought? Maybe your job had an actual purpose to save the galaxy from perishing? Fun to watch, Galaxy Quest. Enjoy.
I've read somewhere that now it's a good time to have a daughter. She can decide on her future, make her conscious professional and personal choices, and add so much to the society. Still some countries perceive having a daughter as a waste of resources: abortions of unborn girls are common as families welcome boys. Boys: the future, the business resources, the fathers, the succession of the family name. You are lucky if you weren't born in these places. You can also consider yourself lucky if you weren't born in times when being a woman was almost a curse. What if your only duty was to get married and bear children, without which you'd be considered worthless? What if having a boy was your only path to privilege? What if your adult life started as being nothing more than the third wife? Enjoy.
Every epoch has its do's and don'ts. And if you're set firmly in the society and wish to fit in the norms for the reasons of career and financial security, your personal feelings and happiness might be completely disregarded. What if a man on the verge of getting married met a woman who redefined his idea of love and passion? Would he follow his heart, abandoning what he had and deep down didn't want and chasing after what he really desired? Or would he conform for the sake of security and reputation? In every epoch, there are women more independent and scandalous than the accepted norm. Not all marriages of love survive and not all liaisons out of reason are unhappy, which makes the choice even harder. But despite the glamorous clothes, society's balls and slightly outdated lifestyle, is the situation any less different than what can happen to you at present? The Age of Innocence.
At times, you rebel against your family's vocation, deciding to become a baker in a clan of actors or an actor in a family of dentists. Occasionally, having no better idea for yourself, you step into your parents' shoes, inherit the family business, or climb the career ladder competing against your family members. Blood is thicker than water, you know it. And very rarely it gives you great opportunities to grow and cultivate your talent. It gives you strength, being set up against tough competition impersonated by your siblings from a young age. If prepares you for a lifestyle. What sacrifices do you have to make to succeed, why not everybody is bound to be the top of the top, why family's support is crucial and why failure can be a heartbreaking journey of lost dreams? One story of success, based on a real family: Fighting with My Family. Enjoy.
What can you do for love? Can you change your bad habits and turn back on the route to righteousness? Can you repent for your sins and save a life that was doomed to be lost? Can you give a taste of life for those who have lost it kept in the bubble of protection? When the cruelest of hearts are melted by the purest of lives and set to fight demons, this is when magic arrives. Remember when the Beast met Bella and transformed back to the Prince? Now, this is a different story; this time a conman meets terminally sick girl and falls in love. An equally enchanting fairy journey of loss and atonement, quite underrated, Winter's Tale.
If you devote your life to just a single aspect, you might find there's something missing. Education is one of these things. Burying yourself entirely in books doesn't guarantee that your life will be happy and fulfilled. But if you realized it just at the last moment of your high-school marathon and there was just one day to catch up on days wasted on serious things? All parties squeezed in one day, speedy self-searching and disappointments, and admitting that you actually might have been wrong. Booksmart.
As a child, you want to have a best friend. Someone loyal to play with. Someone special. You often end up with imaginary friends who would suit your needs and don't require that much protection from your parents' side. But what if your house was visited by someone from a different planet and both of you formed a unique connection that surpassed death and universes? A cult movie from the eighties, which taught us that aliens can be actually befriended and kids are able to form a united front against one enemy. Inspiration for many contemporary film-makers and a great trip in time to the past when even Drew Barrymore was amazingly little. Enjoy.
When you're in your twenties, you have still time to make major decisions. You can make mistakes, you can change your mind. You can switch your career path, there's a chance for a new relationship, for that gap-year, for wasting your savings away. A total revolution is nothing strange and frowned-upon. Time flies by, however, and for some things, it might be already too late, which biological clock always tends to remind us, especially when we celebrate another birthday. What if you wanted to have a child and it was nearly impossible to have one? What kind of strain does it have on your relationship, what kind of compromises you have to make, what doubts can you have about each other? And in today's world is it more important what you want or what you already have? When one woman over thirty meets a man in his twenties. Only You.
Your parents are grandparents seem to you old and weak people who need to be taken care of. But there was a time when they were also young: they had their romances, pleasures, and tragedies. They were wild, brave and unstoppable. The world belonged to them, their future was still uncertain and you - today's youth, weren't even taken into account as living beings. But times fly and generations shift, making the young rediscover the past of their parents. It's a beautiful story of how one niece came across an amazing story of love, hidden by years of political changes and family conflicts. Colonial Africa, breathtaking views, cultural clashes, racial injustice, and one man's fight to happiness. Two generations connected with one snowy mountainous house of the present and scorching hot, wild beaches and bushes of distant Africa. Enjoy.
Can one coincidental meeting on a train outline your fate for the years to come? Can one tragedy put a break to happiness and family bliss? How complicated is a mother-daughter relationship, especially when the roles reverse and the younger has to take care of the older one? Why do you get disappointed with both your parents and children and all are individuals with their own needs and flaws? A mother in search of a daughter and a story about the woman's growth and lots of self-seeking. Julieta.
Growing up has one common quality: you make mistakes. You think that as a young woman you have it all figured out, your ambitious plan for happiness is set to push you onto the road of accomplishment and love, but the reality can be harsher than that. Can looks, brains or having a loving boyfriend help you in your process? Or will you learn the hard way that you don't always get what you want? Three completely different girls, one extra job in a pizza place, and a very warm and smart film to watch. Enjoy.
Imagine a world where your genes determine what kind of profession and lifestyle you are going to have. There are no job interviews, no doubts, no dreams. A simple blood test outlines your professional path and there's nothing to discuss. Either you're a champion or you're a loser. You can design your perfect child and this perfect child can be put on the road to success. You can see that nature is full of flaws and in comparison with genetic modifications, it fails to create perfection. But what if your dreams surpassed your inborn abilities and you wanted a better life for yourself? What if there was a plan to deceive the system? Why talent and predispositions are not enough and to achieve what you dream about you need a very strong will, luck, and one or two lies? Gattaca.
What still seems to be difficult in the business world, is having a career by a woman. We are flooded with stereotypes that women are more emotional than men and less suitable for business. Women still have to cover their brains behind the curtain of pretty faces and sexualized bodies. Female workers also prove to be their greatest enemies, as a competition of a good job, a great man by the side, and other personal achievements seems to overshadow simple solidarity between them. And still, very few ladies are consequent enough to pursue a career in their dream field, resigning from achievements and devoting their lives to family. Personal failures are still accepted less than professional ones. But what if you have brains to follow your dream and circumstances prove that you have nothing to lose? The late eighties very much remind us of contemporary times and the struggles of contemporary women. Haircuts might have changed, but can't we all identify? Working Girl.
It seems that the firmest prejudices are among those who have the least knowledge on the subject. The biggest racists are those who have no friends or acquaintances among black people. The biggest homophobes are those whose fears are based on urban legends, not actual experiences of knowing gay couples. Your eyes open only when you happen to witness. Your knowledge and testimony are worth only when you have actual experience. And then you can change your mind and often stop idolizing those who grew in your perception to the level of heroes. Befriending those whom you previously unfairly despised of or were afraid of seems to be the greatest proof of humility and humanity. This is how society changes. It starts with one man and spreads throughout nations. How two worlds crashed and overcame racism and homophobia in divided America? Two best movies of two generations, Green Book and Philadelphia.
Don't you have a feeling that your relationship is a bit boring? Wouldn't you like just a little bit of... spice? There are moments in life when you need stability, crave something long-lasting, secure, and comfortable. At other times, be it recovering from your previous relationships or simply appreciating a moment in life, you'd rather go for the danger, uncertainty and the tempting appeal of great and crazy sex. When one attractive woman meets one attractive man the only option is romance. Two sex-figures of their generation, still good to watch. 9 1/2 Weeks. Enjoy.
Imagine yourself abroad when you don't know the language and nobody knows yours. This is, I imagine, what blind people feel among movie lovers and deaf people among music fans. This is what poor people feel among the rich. People have various points of reference and breaking out of your comfort zone is hard for everybody who lacks something. But what if a talented teacher inspired someone deprived of chances due to circumstances to become a bit more independent and fit in society? What is the language of love and can you overcome a disability, prejudices, and traumas to have a normal life? One of very few films about the hearing-impaired and a beautiful love story. Children of a Lesser God.
Sometimes you have to lose something to appreciate it. And often it means losing your best friend. But when emotions are running high and you are stuck in the world of professional expectations, loveless relationships, peer pressure, and a situation when the only person you care about is about to leave, you might lose it altogether. Equally hard is to deal with your troublesome family and decide to move countries to fight for yourself. But the more you set off and abandon the more you appreciate what you already have. A crisis is to put us in the right place and find our true selves. But do you have the guts to admit to your weaknesses and follow your heart? A love story on the verge of separation: Matthias & Maxime.
Every mother-daughter relationship is hard. The former has devoted so much to raise the latter that the thought of that little one entering the adult world, getting married (to someone not good enough) and having children of her own is unbearable. However toxic it might seem, it's a bond that can never be replaced. Such closeness to any other woman in your life is almost impossible as it covers so many years and keeps so many memories. Even the best friend can turn into the most annoying friend but in times of hardship, she's there to support. A very moving story about one single mother and her daughter over the years of relationships, children, separation and never-ending phone calls. Still true, Terms of Endearment.
It's great when you're talented and your efforts are appreciated by your family members and the support has been given to you from early childhood. You then thank your parents when receiving another award and thrive supporting them in return. But when you're extremely talented and there is no support, not even acceptance among the members of your closest family, the talent and success itself are not enough to make you happy. How one world-famous singer had to face his demons, addictions and find a way to personal happiness? Early years of Elton John, Rocketman.
War is not a child's game. It's about politics and ruthless killing. But once you form a unit of juveniles, equip them with weapons and make them take care of a hostage, you might deal with another Lord of the Flies. How pristine are human reactions in the face of a common enemy? Why trust is so easy to break? Why leadership goes from hands to hands in the face of circumstances? And why establishing a few rules makes people behave against their own beliefs? Monos.
There's something wrong with the human race, as from time to time, it decides to hate one of its variety. Some think themselves better, others perceiving as monsters. But hatred between nations and religions is based on stereotypes and these stereotypes are easy to repeat. But what if during World War II a German, Hitler-obsessed boy was forced to accept a Jewish girl hiding in his house? What if another boy happened to be so close to the Concentration Camp and befriended one of its prisoners? How close can you be to the consequences of blind ideology and admit that you were wrong? A different perception of war, one funny in its bittersweetness, another heartbreakingly realistic and two moving pictures of how cruel was our history and our mistakes. Both based on books, Jojo Rabbit and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
Sometimes in life, you need a sign, a signal from God that will lead you to a life vocation, a coincidence that will allow you to choose a profession that will make sense and make you fulfilled and happy. It can be a sign for your personal decision, retirement or resignation and making place for someone new.
We change as a society and as a society, we need different leaders; we need those who will understand us, have followed our footsteps and dived in the world of our mistakes. But we fluctuate from being conservative and liberal, trying to choose the right path and finding ourselves in the bowling pot of voices screaming which life is the best. This leadership especially touches upon the Church. Sometimes a major life decision is required to bring the essence of the Church (which is undoubtedly ultimately good) to the masses. Sometimes it requires the change of the Pope. Sometimes it calls for a film bringing two popes into our homes via Netflix. After over two thousand years of Christianity, it seems that the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and those responsible for the Church can be close to us as humans and that atonement is possible for everybody. Unprecedented story of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, and a chapter of our history. The Two Popes.
As a girl, you play various games: in your imagination, you can be a captain of a ship, a writer, a soldier, a TV presenter or a cook. And then, as a woman, you are limited to social status: single, married, in a relationship, divorced, or widowed and wonder what could possibly have gone wrong.
What is the purpose of a woman on this planet? Why is she educated, cherished, and brought up to face the obstacles of the world? For many years, her only life dream and ability to survive was to get married as soon (and rich) as possible. But for generations of women, she was supposed to succeed and fall in love, passionately and romantically. Maybe that's why we were all enchanted by Little Women. Jo, Amy, Meg, and Beth March were always somewhere at the back of the minds of girls choosing their careers or making life decisions. They represented independence, friendship, sisterhood, dreams, and coming of age, they portrayed life seemingly distant from us, but so universal, everybody could relate. Little girls watching the 1994 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel can now, as grown women, admire another movie about four girls making their way in the world, where money count more than dreams, society deprives of values, and very few privileges allow women to live on their own terms. Surely girls being born today will need another reminder that there once were sisters with very similar dilemmas.
