Love, romance, starting a new life, reuniting with the first love seem to be restricted to the young. Stereotypes don't apply to these two films. They offer us an exotic adventure, an insight into a different culture, they make us believe that it is never too late to change something, to move house, to quit a job, to end an unhappy and disrespectful relationship. And the chance of starting a new life is also the right of those who thought that their lives are already over. Soaking up the sun of the Orient, you have a feeling that there's not much you actually need from life: a shelter, some clothing, and simple food is enough to make you get by. For us, spoiled by the western civilization with houses, cars, mortgages, expensive bags, brands, jewelry and luxurious holidays, it's good to remind ourselves that the majority of our world's population doesn't have it that great. And despite the fact, they seem to be a lot happier than all those better-off.
Civilization brought corruption. It damaged our morals, it made us go further away from the traditional, ordered world centuries of dogmas, rules, customs, and laws forced us to obey. For some, the only way to stay true to one's beliefs is to resign from all of it altogether. But does the world devoid of temptations guarantees a safe and secure environment for everyone? Isn't extreme perfectionism too close to fanaticism and doesn't it create dangers of its own? A thrilling production of my youth. The Village. Maybe your biggest enemy is your closest friend.
The word of a child against the word of an adult. The stand of a parent against the stand of a professional. Can a man once suspected of a cruel crime against an innocent child regain the trust of a small community of citizens? What makes us more reliable in court? Is it our family situation, professional experience, morals? Why not having children makes us perceived by the society as less trustworthy and why do we still think that children are innocent, honest and good? When the crimes of pedophiles see the light of day, the crimes of children should also be exposed as many youngsters destroyed the mental and professional lives of their teachers. Sometimes your job can be a course and a small group of friends might turn to a group of very close enemies. Hunt.
A fallen angel. A beautiful girl desired by many and by many deceived. A story from the past but still a dilemma of many contemporary women. Can you be loved once a man seduced you, deceived you and left you with a baby? Can you build your life from scratch and can you expect someone to love you as you are, or love the idea of you which has nothing to do with the reality? Times changed but motherly issues still pose problems for some. Does a woman have to lead a life of sin, once she had sinned or does the forgiveness mean cruelty and condemnation on the part of forgivers?
You don't have to be obsessed with dinosaur models or be able to tell every single name of every single species in the catalogue of your memory to be aware that world eras before our time looked different. We are just a blink in the history and no one said that the future belongs to us. Many though, whether scientists, writers, filmmakers, or dreamers imagined what would happen if we could use the knowledge about technology and science to bring dinosaurs back to life. What if watching them would be as easy as buying the ticket to the zoo instead of investing in the whole safari trip? Wouldn't you like to pay for such an entertainment? Wouldn't you like to take a trip in time to Jura and feel the magnitude of the giant predators that once ruled the Earth? Or the impossible scenario brings nothing but danger? From 1993 Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, through subsequent two sequels and recent but awe-inspiring with special effects Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Teenagers. Fully grown-up on the outside but rarely displaying the wisdom of adults. Self-confident. Experimental. Insecure. Mean. One of the most shocking films of recent years shows us how cruel we can be as people, how bullying at school might affect one fragile and innocent girl and how still strong is prejudice towards people who are new, different, other. Sex, drugs, alcohol, trips abroad - in times where everything is available who is there to set the limits and tell the right from wrong? And who is able to bring up the young generation, when the only thing you can feel is an enormous amount of rage?
Sometimes you pass them in the streets. Occasionally you know them from the distance, either there is a family member or an acquaintance who suffers from the similar condition. Once in a thousand cases, this is your story. A story of a mother who wished to have a healthy and happy child and gave birth to an individual requiring constant attention. For some, it's a burden. For others, it's a trial and the greatest proof of unconditional love. But every family is a family and a family with autism, disability, and chronic disease is no less a family that an average one. It simply requires a little bit more effort. The Black Balloon.
Imagine that your life comes to an end. Your life adventure fades slowly and you are to abandon your body, your beloved and all the things you're used to. When it comes to death, everybody is equal. No money can guarantee you a longer life, no gold can grant you a journey full of happiness and fortune. We came to this planet naked and naked we are going to leave it. But if you had a chance to prolong your time just a little bit longer, would you give all your money to have all this what theoretically money can't buy?
Our society still perceives the age difference between lovers as a gossip material. As if the only proper way to do something was to fall in love with someone of the same age, status, race, and religion. Our world shrunk. One day you can be sunbathing in California, the other explore villages of Namibian tribes. The chances of falling in love with someone similar to you are getting smaller and smaller. But chances of being criticized by the society are getting bigger and bigger each day. Does the age difference matter? Is it acceptable when an older man is with a younger woman? And why does it still raise some eyebrows when an older woman is with a younger man?
One of the most gripping stories of a man who loved so much that he resigned from what he believed in and chose a life in the dark, feeding on people's fluids and fears. A sexual fantasy of a director who chose the best cast that could create an aura of dream-like fantasy, romance, erotic adventure, and horror. With music and costumes that will bring to life your weirdest fantasies. This is still one of my favorite films of all time. And a favorite Count that loved and suffered so much that drinking blood was his only consolation. Dracula.
A magical story of growing up and experiencing life in its best and worst aspects. All this served on a plate of imagination, color and the impossible. An ordinary hero, a beautiful girl, suspicious people met along the way and a set of adventures to experience. Sometimes you need a fairy tale to keep you going, however, it very often gives you an amazingly realistic life lesson. How can you recognize good and evil? What choices should you make? When do you truly love someone and when is it only a short infatuation?
Is it enough to diet and exercise to achieve your perfect figure or simply stay out of the hazardous state of being overweight? Who is to blame for childhood obesity in America and other parts of the world? Why the food we consume is more dangerous than the hardest drugs you can illegally obtain on the market? And why a simple solution of sticking to fresh, organic, natural and unprocessed foods might be the answer to your problems. Coming from a family that always struggled with dieting, experimenting on everything from the calorie counting to Dukan and Atkins diets, dietary pills and other bizarre methods of losing weight, I learned that there is no magic diet but a healthy lifestyle. Time will tell whether we will make the right choices, whether the governments will make the right decisions and whether big corporations will take care more of our well-being than their gain. For now, a documentary worth watching. Are you Fed Up?
Genius. An extraordinary individual among ordinary people. A gift found once in a million or a couple of millions. But, despite his unusual abilities, does he have the right to choose a normal life, to follow his heart, to lead a normal life, ignoring the talent that was given to him? Can he fit in the crowd which will never fully understand his talents and ideas? Should he be like everyone else, taking into account that less is more, simple is easier and ordinary is a way that masses survived over centuries? Or should he devote his life to a higher aim, resigning from earthly pleasures, engraving his name on a lonely and cold grave of history? Vocation. Love. Desire. Genius. Good Will Hunting. A story of a guy.
Some say that men nowadays became redundant. Women gained financial independence and are more difficult to get tamed by the opposite sex. On the other hand, they still need someone who will support them in their pursuits, not limiting them and creating a safety bubble around them, but who will become an equal partner. What is more important: romance and flattery, friendship and respect, physical attraction or reliability? Every woman has her own answer to this question. Every woman's life is built brick by brick with her own choices.
What if your dreams are destroyed by one bad reality? What if your talent is not enough, your ambition is impossible and your pursuits - futile? Does the career that matters or is it happiness within your family and friends that adds meaning to your life? Can everyone be equally talented or maybe it is the job that finds you the best vocation, not the life that you pictured for yourself. Not everyone is talented enough to be another Charlie Chaplin, Marylin Monroe, iconic James Dean. But everyone needs a place to fit in and find one's own little happiness. It's always worth trying. All these attempts will finally get us somewhere, won't they?
You're lucky if you were born with the sex you feel truly attached to. The transition might be painful and demand the adjustment of your family and friends. What if your parent decides to change sex? What if you find it difficult to cope with the new situation as the support which you are given seems to be inadequate? What if sex, sexuality, and adulthood are something so layered and complicated it's sometimes too overwhelming? A deep, strong and thought-provoking film on being a parent and a child. The change of sex might be a small problem among the ones which life will bring along.
