Losing someone you love is a difficult experience. To forget, you build a shelter, you surround yourself with sedatives, bury yourself in work or get stuck in the memories which only give you pain and don't allow you to let go. But life goes on and you have to deal with it. You won't find the same relationship with someone you cared about so much beforehand. But you might meet another friendly fellow who will love you just as well. A healing story of love and letting go. No one said it would be easy, but no one claimed that a new life is impossible.
It seems that you have your life already planned, all the last buttons buttoned up, your life path simple and predictable. And then the fate plays with you - the mighty plan maker - and you are left with nothing... or endless possibilities and new experiences. At times it can concern your love life. Possibly you previously got married or you are in a lasting relationship. Maybe you pictured your life with one person and now the second unexpected guest just blurred the first picture. Maybe you can fall in love with someone you'd never expect to care about, someone who isn't your type, race, religion, personality, or even sex. A nice romantic comedy for the doubtful. Imagine: me and you. Enjoy.
Can you imagine your day without the taste of your favorite coffee? Can you picture your life without smelling your beloved ones lying next to you in your bed? (If they stink that's a completely different matter) Can you do away with the sound of your music? Can you finally imagine losing all the pictures that surround you, forgetting the faces of your family members and friends? Is it the poverty that is the worst thing that can happen to you? Is it the loss of your house? A divorce? Think twice. Maybe health is all that you need, as all the richness of the world can be perceived only by your senses. What does it mean to lose them all?

Have you ever been in a mood when you wanted to catch up with all your college friends and check what life had for them to offer? How some relationships failed, some grew strong, some friends moved to Paris, London, and Amsterdam, and some still live the same life they lived when you got to know them. Ponder over how their vocational life changed, how some decided to marry to surprisingly atypical people, some gave birth to children, even though for years they were against any form of reproduction. If you're tired of your friends, you can think about friends from this particular trilogy. From France, through Spain, across Russia and the USA, follow the life of a student who grew up to be an adult in a world which sometimes disappoints and leaves you bitter-sweet, and sometimes puts you on cloud nine and makes you jump for joy.
Individualism and financial security are goals that a lot of countries strive for. But is the comfort of a well-off life and shedding the burden of taking care of older parents a road to happiness? Is there a line between women's independence and a complete uselessness of men in everyday life and forming a family? Is it better to have a comfortable life and die alone or is living among interdependent people something worth investing into? Were we brought to this world solely to live and develop individually or should we form tribes of cooperating relations? Which country and continent brings the best ideas of life? Why overcoming obstacles is better than living a life devoid of problems? Sweden versus Africa. Comfort, loneliness, and boredom vs adventure, poverty, and human interaction. A thought-provoking documentary leaving you with even more questions. The Swedish Theory of Love.
Returning home after years of exile rarely comes up to expectations. Everything left behind stayed the same: the same houses are now decades older, the same are people but covered with more wrinkles and prejudices. It's hard to fit in and win back your position and respect. But a particular skill of a new-comer can turn the vile and paved ways of residents upside down. One talented woman returns to solve the mystery of her childhood. One dress changes the fate of a spinster. One roll of material alters the fate of an Australian small town. What about your small town? The Dressmaker.
Immortality. A desire which even the richest fail to achieve. All the beauty products, all the diets in the world can't stop the process of aging. What is unavailable for a human, might be accessible for another kind of living things. One bite can prolong your life endlessly. One bite can bring you richness and power. It can make you a witness of changing history and political turnovers. One bite, however, can make your life an unbearable hunt for food, a lifetime stuck in the body you'd wish to change and grow. One bite can take away all the sunrises and sunsets of your days and sentence you to a punishment of a mauling and painful death. Is this one bite worth the deal? Interview with the Vampire.
Finding the right partner is hard. Matching characters and mutual interests are not always the basis for a love-affair. There are a lot of minute differences and variables which make forming a lasting relationship almost an impossibility, even if we pretend that we have something in common. But what if being single was subjected to punishment? What if the ideology of a couple was preferable and the single life doomed to discrimination and eternal seclusion? What if there were places where kiss, sex and falling in love were forbidden? Which camp would be the right place for you? A brilliant film showing us how ridiculous we are in the pursuit of socially accepted happiness. Is the dystopian scenario really that far from reality? The Lobster.
The majority of us are in various shapes and sizes. There's really no need to try to fit in your friends' clothes, as there are many body types and their type might not be your type at all. Modeling and fashion dominated our lives to the extent that finding another top model occupies TV entertainment, fitting into size 0 interchanges with being accepted as a plus size exhibition to make you fashionable regardless of the food you consume. Fashion brands started to cooperate with chain stores to make glamor available to the masses. Who is right in this overall propaganda of beauty? Is it really that important to be physically attractive and well-dressed? Are the lives of models and cover girls so coveted once the eye of the camera is shut off? Is it a dream come true for a girl who desires fame and admiration and is willing to do everything to achieve her dream? And are the small worlds of Paris, Milan, and New York really that important? With a twist, The Model.
When five sisters live in a Turkish house under the supervision of a conservative grandmother and an abusive uncle, the process of growing-up might be problematic. Having in mind Coppola's Virgin Suicides, we are yet again able to see how limitation and imprisonment can influence the lives of young women. Sisterhood is a bond which is difficult to be broken. Growing up in a family lacking compassion and understanding, following strict rules of tradition, can lead to one or two tragedies. Mustang.
It seems that we have got used to resources such as air, water, and food. Living in a developed world, we cannot really imagine having no electricity, clean water, and at least one meal a day. You don't have to look far away to find places in need of humanitarian help. But if the Earth was doomed to hunger and annihilation, if the climate and general conditions of life deteriorated to the extent of forcing us to abandon the planet, who would be brave enough to make sacrifices? Is leaving the family for an infinite number of years worth the pain? Can the loneliness of a space journey be endured by everybody and will everyone be able to see beyond selfish desires to fight for the common good? And, finally, will space surprise us in complexity which reaches beyond our senses and comprehension? Totally amazing, Interstellar.
I remember the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast. As a kid, I owned a blue hardcover book with beautiful pictures of animated characters and I used to paint all character's teeth yellow except for Bella's. Apparently, I assumed that yellow teeth couldn't be trusted and the same assumption was reached by the producers of toothpaste and teeth whiteners. Now we have a possibility to look at another version of a famous fable. When love, greed, beauty, paternal instinct and siblings competition takes us, adults, to a different level of fairy-tale deception. With spectacular landscapes, beautiful dresses and epic battles: La Belle & la bête.
Money runs the world. It's no news that people can do a lot for money. The money can buy expensive bling, nice clothes, cars, and houses. Of course, it cannot buy you love, but a form of admiration and following can be achieved by flaunting the insides of your pockets. For some, the label is a status symbol. It distinguishes you from the masses, it proves that you can afford something, while others have to resort to mass produced items. You can go on a shopping spree, not paying attention to your account balance, without being worried that it's the end of the month and you're a bit short of cash. But is the life of rich and famous really that different from a standard life? Does having n number of bags mean that you're a better person than the ones who have one bag that covers all their needs, and, to make matters worse, it's without the label? Does having more bring you happiness? Is luxury a deluding force that makes people believe that billions slightly less well off are any less special? Are Rich Kids of Instagram any different from every kid on the planet, or just equipped with more toys?
There are various powers in the world. There is the power of love, which can be subjected to manipulation, trails, and betrayals. There is the political power of making decisions and ruling a mighty kingdom, there is the power of loyalty and staying true to the given world, and finally, there is the power of motherhood and defending the ones we had the strength to raise from childhood. Which of the powers is the strongest? And, are these feelings only the remains of legends and fairy tales, or do they still run the world? Two powerful films with one hell of a Huntsman.
Admiration. There are people who do something extraordinary. With their beauty, success, accomplishments, and talents they make themselves outstanding among the crowds of admirers. As Britney Spears was singing 'There's only two types of people in the world The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe (...)'. Stars entertain and the crowds follow. There are people who are far more loyal than the standard admirers. Being a fan for some means attending every concert, buying every album and cutting every newspaper article. And while flaws, romances, infidelity or career mistakes are usually accepted and you turn a blind eye on your idol's downs, can you be a fan enough to cover for murder? Can you be Number One Fan?
We care about our image, don't we? Don't we follow the latest trends, with a passion of an addict watch fashion blogs and instead of visiting a museum, a library or enjoying a trip outside the city, we visit shopping centers? Clothes are fun. The same trainers change every year for a slightly different design, the same white T-shirt has right now a little bit different cut and, instead of classic colors, we are bombarded by pastels or hippy/boho fringes. It's all for the pleasure of the third world countries. We deserve it. We work hard, and while buying a flat or covering our medical expenses might be hard, there's still a chance of buying a nice outfit from our favorite chain store.
It will make you feel better and it will make you look pretty. But as with every fleeting feeling of the contemporary world: have you ever thought about people who are behind your clothes? Have you ever thought about the determinism of your birth, which made you a lucky buyer and the millions of less fortunate: the abused makers of your whim? The True Cost.
